Perpetuated forever in the history of the University of Coimbra

On May 22, 2016, the University of Coimbra, by its Faculty of Economics, awarded António Guterres, then newly nominated Secretary-General of the United Nations, with Honoris Causa Doctorate.

This honor was awarded to António Guterres in recognition of his commitment on promoting peace and justice in the world with a special focus on human rights.

The challenge was to crystallize in an "object book" all the single moments that happened on the day that marked this expression of gratitude from the University of Coimbra.

Besides speeches from Magnificent Rector and His Excellency the President of the Republic, as well as the speech of the candidate himself and the praise of his sponsors – it was clear that we should illustrate the book with the excellent images of the photo reporters hired to follow the event – ​​Sérgio Azenha and Paulo Amaral.

The gathering of all the material to work with, as well as its quality, became the opportunity for the first time in a publication of this nature, to structure all the contents according to the chronological sequence of events and faithfully to the secular ritual session of the emblematic Formal Doctorates of the University of Coimbra.

Responsibility guided us to a conservative respect for tradition. It was designed with a sober graphic line where we used only black and red, colors that summarize in themselves, the most used colors in the first typographic prints of the Sec. XVI of University of Coimbra books.

We designed a concept with a distinct format from which the graphic and typographic coherence was defined as classic and timeless as possible.

This object crystallized a moment that will be perpetuated forever in the history of the University of Coimbra.
